Sometimes you might want your assistant to change how it pronounces certain words.

Bot Bureau is based in a town called Dún Laoghaire in Co. Dublin, so let's use that as an example.

Dún Laoghaire is an Irish place name that is pronounced "done leary". Or "doon LEER-ee". Or a few other variants depending on where you're from.

So how does AI treat pronunciations?

The AI models that we use for conversational AI are trained on vast amounts of data, which includes every variant of pronunciation, so it hasn't learned what the 'wrong answer' is because pronunciation is subjective. Additionally, Generative AI works by generating responses in real time, so small variations are normal (read more here). The combination of those two factors means that sometimes words are pronounced in a way that you want to change.

So can we change the pronunciation of specific words?

Yes and no. We can give it specific rules to follow and use a pronunciation dictionary to give the AI model the best chance of getting the pronunciation to your liking, but the variances that exist in GenAI means that it won't pronounce any word exact same way every time.

Get in touch and we can work with you on getting it as close as possible.
